Visitation by Professionals - Attorney

  • Inmate visitation by professional staff members will be Monday, Wednesday and Thursday (except holidays) from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Tuesday and Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • The visitation policy does not apply to attorneys when their client has been arrested and is requesting to speak with their attorney.
    • Attorneys who are contacting their client immediately after an arrest will be allowed to contact their client in the no contact bond room at anytime.
  • If an attorney visits after an arrest a client will be made available as soon as practical pursuant to security concerns and activities occurring in the facility.
  • Attorneys will be permitted in the booking area interview rooms only when their client has requested an attorney and an investigator/officer is interviewing/interrogating the client.
  • Professional visits will be held in the visitation area in the non-contact visitation rooms.
  • To make more efficient use of professional visitation time, and the interview rooms available, attorneys may make reservations to speak with their clients during the regularly scheduled professional visitation times. Office members will make every attempt to serve professional members in a prompt and professional manner. If other attorneys are using one or both of the visitation rooms there could be a delay.
  • Attorneys that make reservations may make a reservation for a one (1) hour time period. Reservations should be made by calling (816) 236-8828.
    • Attorneys may exceed the one (1) hour time period if there are no other attorneys who have a reservation for a client interview or if there is no other attorney or professional waiting to utilize the interview room.
  • Attorneys visiting their clients will take the lobby elevator to the second floor of the Law Enforcement Center and contact the officer in Central Control.
  • Prior to receiving a visit a professional member attorney will be required to produce a valid bar association card and a current driver's license.
  • Once the professional's identification has been verified the officer in Central Control will then make arrangements for the client to be sent to the visitation area.
  • Professionals will be searched in a manner similar to the search procedure at the Buchanan County Court House, which is primarily by metal detection wand and cursory examination of briefcases, bags or purses.
  • Professional members who require a special visit with a client will coordinate all special visits with the Captain of the Corrections Division.
